Edmonton Centre Federal Election Forum

Join us at the Edmonton Centre Federal Election Forum on October 10, 2019.

In an effort to combat political apathy and increase engagement, the Oliver Community League and Global Shapers Edmonton have organized a Federal Election Forum on Thursday, October 10, at the Matrix Hotel for Edmonton Centre candidates.

This forum is run in partnership with the Downtown Edmonton Community League, Queen Mary Park Community League and the Downtown Business Association of Edmonton.

All organizations involved in hosting this forum are strictly non-partisan.
 

All registered candidates were invited to participate. The following candidates have confirmed their attendance:

  • James Cumming – Conservative Pary of Canada
  • Randy Boissonnault – Liberal Party of Canada
  • Katherine Swampy – Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP)
  • Paul Hookham – People’s Party of Canada

Doors open at 5:45 p.m.

Network with political parties and community organizations from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m.

The forum begins at 6:30 p.m.

Candidates will take questions from the public starting 7 p.m.

Pub nights are great to hang out with friends and meet neighbours!

The Oliver Community League (OCL) is hosting its next pub night on Saturday, October 19, at 7 p.m. at Teddy’s Bar & Grill.

Bring a teddy bear or plush toy in support of the Zebra Child Protection Centre.

Halloween is a great chance to get to know your neighbours!

Sign up your building to hand out candy to kids on Halloween Day.
The Oliver Community League (OCL) will create a Google Map of all participating buildings in Oliver.

Email us your address at info@olivercommunity.com and we’ll make sure urban Trick-or-Treaters know where to go!

The OCL will be handing out candy, serving hot chocolate and signing up members for FREE at Kitchener Park (10230 114 St.).

Our local Edmonton Police Service officers will be there, come say hi!

Seniors EngAGE

Join us for EngAGE!

The OCL Social Advocacy Committee is partnering with students from MacEwan University’s social work program to host EngAGE, an event aimed at improving how the Oliver Community League interacts with seniors living in Oliver.

Seniors and representatives of senior serving-organizations are invited to participate in a conversation about what seniors would like from their community league, what the gaps are, and how the community league can fill those gaps and better engage with seniors living in Oliver.

 Light refreshments will be provided. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by emailing advocacy@olivercommunity.com

Peace Garden Park AGM

The OCL’s Peace Garden Park is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for its membership, and several positions on its garden committee may be available! Our committee works to ensure the base operating needs of the garden are met and engage our membership. If you want to become involved in your community and believe you have something special to contribute to Peace Garden Park, I encourage you to attend the AGM and participate in our election for the 2020 season!

Committee positions up for regular annual election include:
Communications – engages our membership via email updates
Volunteer Director – help organize various workbees 
Compost Management – monitors our composting
Treasurer – tracks various garden expenses
Member At Large – helps where needed!

7pm – 9pm (our “hard stop” time). Elections will be held once we have cleared all items from the evening’s agenda.
