Molson Development Plan Approved by Council

After a long hearing on August 26, City Council ultimately decided to approve the developers’ plans for the Molson Crosstown site.
While this is not the result we were hoping for, we want to thank you all for your participation in this process. The residents of Oliver and the other surrounding communities shared a very inspiring vision for our core neighbourhoods, and showcased that Edmonton residents and community leagues can contribute positively to the growth and development of our city. We would also like to thank Councillors Linda Sloan, Ben Henderson, and Don Iveson for listening to the communities and residents impacted by the development and for their expressed support for a vibrant, liveable downtown core. We were also happy to see thoughtful commentary coming out of several local blogs and publications (Omar MouallemDavid Staples, and Jamie Post in particular shared some insightful commentary).
The Oliver Community League’s participation in the process for developing the Molson Crosstown site is far from over. We intend to work with the developers as much as we are able to make the best of what will be going forward on the site. We also hope to push for changes to the consultation process undertaken with respect to this development in order to better facilitate and respect citizen participation.
Thank you again for sharing your time and your vision for our community, and especially thanks to those of you who wrote to Council and attended the hearings on this project. We encourage you to stay tuned for more detailed reflections in the weeks ahead.
